Students who enrol at TNC come from ethnically diverse backgrounds, from all parts of South Africa and even some other countries. The college aims to foster intercultural understanding and while the emphasis is placed on the indvidual growth of students, the rendering of service to the community is also an important principle of its educational philosophy.

Other important principles include academic excellence and social leadership. Students are also encouraged to develop their leadership qualities by standing for election as class representatives and SRC members.
